As per tradition training started with the gracious name of Allah, participants were invited to share the golden words of the Holy Prophet regarding importance of education.
First session was ‘role of parents in education’. In the very first activity of this session, they were given time to work in groups and identify the ways we can involve parents in school activities. In the second activity, they had to play dramas in groups. They were given situations to act out, which they performed superbly and this was a proof that teacher is an actor. With the use of the tool of drama, they clearly understood as what is the actual role of teachers in involving parents in educational activities.
Second session was the ‘corporal punishment’. After some introductory conversation, participants were divided into two groups, one in the favor while the others were against the punishment. They were given the time to debate after a vigorous sharing of ideas and convincing talks. A consensus was developed that in any case the corporal punishment will be avoided and the students will be facilitated to learn inn a loving and caring environment
Third session was ‘teaching poetry, rhymes and songs in English’. Teaching of poetry is a little different and should be made more interesting and creative. During the activity like large group analysis of a poem, they were taught different steps of teaching a poem. This activity covered many important aspects of poetry like vocabulary, reciting poem making gestures, surface and literal meaning etc.
Fourth and the last session was ‘teaching reading comprehension’. It helped teachers to invent and work out innovative ways of teaching English effectively. Interactive activities helped them to work in English classroom.
Training day ended with the questions, queries and suggestions from the participants
During the sessions, participants had opportunity to agree and disagree and this is the actual way of having an undeviating understanding of cherished lessons.
