International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women

On November 25th, 2009, an event was held at GGMS Sathangali and CMGMS Jabbar Gali regarding the “International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women”. This is an important day; the purpose of celebrating this day was to highlight the injustices and discriminations against the women of the area and against the world’s women. Friends Pakistan conducts such awareness raising events every year and this time, rural area of Sathangali & Jabbar Gali were also selected for the celebration of this event. An internal program was arranged at the both sites. This program started at 10 am at Sathangali in which the local religious leaders Mr. and Ms. Qazi Shams Rehman were invited as the chief guests, while Mr. Dawood Khan and Lady Counselor from Jabbar Gali were the guests at CMGMS. Students of GGMS & CMGMS performed different activities such as poems, speeches and dramas on the issues of discrimination and injustices which are commonly practiced against the women of the area. In the end, Chief guest at the both centers made speeches in the favor of women rights. The chief guests, in there speeches said that in our area women are tried to be deprived from their rights of Inheritance which Islam gives to Women. They also highlighted some others rights of women such as matrimonial rights, education and health rights to which less heed is given. At the end of the program, tea and refreshment were served amongst the participants and gifts distributed amongst the girls who actively participated in this event.   back
