Human Rights Day
The date of December 10th is celebrated to honor the United Nations General Assembly's adoption and proclamation, on 10 December 1948, of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR), the first global enunciation of human rights.
The 61st anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights occurred on 10 December 2009. On December, 10, 2009, Friends Pakistan/KnK celebrated this event with a small scale internal event at the NHA center Shinkiari to create awareness in people especially women about their rights.
The objective of this event was to create awareness in people especially women about their rights given in UDHR. In this event learners both male and female of the NHA center Shinkiari, mothers of the learners and women of the local community participated. This event started at 10:00 AM with the recitation of the Holy Quran. After that Ms. Rehana, the center In charge oriented all the participants about the history and importance of UDHR and the background of the circumstances in which the UN General Assembly adopted this as a declaration. Ms. Rehana had an Urdu translation of UDHR in her hand. She had highlighted the important parts and clauses of UDHR. She loudly read the text of UDHR and then made the explanation of its different clauses in the simple, clear and lucid local language for making it intelligible and comprehensible for all. All the participants took a lot of interest in the clauses of human rights which most of them heard for the first time.
Three learners of class fourth (4th) and Fifth (5th) delivered speeches on the human rights and human rights violation in their area. Learners of two classes presented two plays before the audiences in which social injustices and violations of human rights were highlighted. All the participants applauded the acting skills and didactic presentations of kids who participated in the Plays. back
