Friends Pakistan has always regarded education as one of its highest priorities and a core program when considering the long-term development of the community. In this regard, Friends Pakistan has been executing interventions of educational and Psycho social support for the children of vulnerable communities, reconstruction of thirty (30) Government Schools in the Earthquake Affected areas of District Mansehra, rehabilitation of the educational system especially the girl’s education through the facilitation in term of provision of alternative buildings for the schools in the war hit areas of Swat, stream lining the Children with Disabilities (CWDs) through establishing Six (6) Inclusive Model Schools and operationalizing the girls’ secondary schools in the rural areas, where there was no availability of girls’ institutions at secondary level. Friends Pakistan has designed and implemented projects to empower people to achieve self-sufficiency and to increase the economic, social and physical capacities of communities to sustain the means of their livelihoods. These projects predominantly provided the individuals with the opportunity to develop their skills in order to work their way out of poverty. In the year of 2010, the main projects that Friends Pakistan is executing include the Income generation project through the Provision of Livestock amongst the extremely vulnerable families of Jabbergali, Carpet weaving and capacity building projects for sustaining the income of the craftsmen’s weavers and the projects of building the capacities of vulnerable community members especially the women in term of employable skills to enable them to earn respectable living for themselves. Friends Pakistan’s Community development initiatives seeks to empower individuals and groups of people by providing these groups with the skills they need to affect change in their own communities. The Capacity building programs of Friends Pakistan have been developed and implemented through a process based on occupational and individual capacity development needs to ensure proper utilization of the training initiatives. Friends Pakistan facilitated the community and other stakeholders to achieve the desired results of mainstreaming the PWDs in society with the optimal utilization of indigenous local resources. The Construction of semi permanent structures for the long term educational support of the school outreach children and provision of Potable water to the vulnerable community member of village Makria Sharif are the other important interventions. Friends Pakistan focused on Women’s Organization as individualism and lack of collective efforts is the main cause of their vulnerability. The formation of women groups was encouraged in both rural and urban settings. The presence of “Women groups” associated with Friends Pakistan has extended to the thirteen (13) union councils of District Mansehra. Fifty (50) new women groups were established at both the urban and rural targeted areas in District Mansehra. Capacity building of women’s groups has been carried out to enable the women groups to meditate on their issues and framing strategies to address them at the local level. Friends Pakistan has conducted the events such as Didactic Plays, workshops and awareness Rallies for creating the awareness in the target communities on the women’s rights and the elimination of violence against women. The development of the personal skills, knowledge and abilities of its human resource has always been a priority area of Friends Pakistan. Friends Pakistan has developed and implemented capacity building programs through a process based on organizational, occupational and individual capacity development needs to ensure proper utilization of the training initiatives. In order to meet the growing organizational needs with the expansion of operational area, Friends Pakistan has developed the strategy to strengthen the capacities of the organizational Human Resource. Friends Pakistan has conducted internal capacity building sessions and also facilitated its staff to take part in the training events of the professional training organizations. Along with this, Friends Pakistan has also initiated an internship program to make sure the availability of efficient workforce. Read more
