Women Empowerment
Women empowerment is an important and useful concept in the development of a community as it represents women as active agents rather than passive recipients of development policies. Women empowerment has a positive relation with the overall betterment of the family which gives women more control and power over household decision making, improved child well-being and increased resources.
Friends Pakistan focused on Women’s Organization as individualism and lack of collective efforts is the main cause of their vulnerability. The formation of women groups was encouraged in both rural and urban settings. The presence of “Women groups” associated with Friends Pakistan has extended to the thirteen (13) union councils of District Mansehra. Fifty (50) new women groups were established at both the urban and rural targeted areas in District Mansehra. Capacity building of women’s groups established both in the urban and rural target communities has been carried out to enable the women groups to meditate on their issues and framing strategies to address them at the local level. The capacity building sessions that have been conducted at different community locations include, Family Law, organization Management, reproductive health, women’s social and conjugal rights and role of women in development.
• The capacities of three hundred and seventy seven (377) women of the local women groups were built on women rights and Family Law and Women Reproductive health in the targeted areas of District Mansehra.
• Fifty (50) new women groups were established at both the urban and rural targeted areas in District Mansehra.
• The capacities of two (2) Nakah Khawa were built on the formal filling and registration of “Nikkah form” through Nikkah Registrar Training.
• Four hundred and seventy (470) community members participated in the Awareness Rallies conducted to raise voice for the elimination of violence against women in union council Hilkot and Balakot.
• Three hundred and fifty (350) women participated in the Didactic Plays conducted to highlight the evils of violence against women and social injustices practiced against women in the union council Jaber Devli and Hilkot.
• The capacities of twenty (20) representative women of the local women groups were built on social and Inheritance Rights of Women with the conduct of three workshops conducted at Abbottabad.
Friends Pakistan has conducted the events such as Didactic Plays, workshops and awareness Rallies for creating the awareness in the target communities on the women’s rights and the elimination of violence against women. In these events, the target community has been educated about the UN Convention on the elimination of violence against women in their local languages through the conduct of awareness Rallies for promoting the theme of elimination of violence against women, conduct of Didactic Plays for highlighting domestic violence against women and conduct of workshops on social and inheritance rights of women etc.
• The awareness of four hundred and seventy (470) community members was built on the theme of elimination of violence against women through the conduct of two awareness rallies at Sathangali and Balakot.
• The capacity of three hundred and fifty(350) community members was build on UN convention of Elimination of Violence against women through five stage performances(Didactic Plays) highlighting the evils of domestic violence against women at the rural areas of Jabergali and Sathangali.
• The capacities of twenty(20) women was built through the conduct of three(3) workshops on social and inheritance rights of Women at Abbottabad.
