Kawish is a ten year boy, who resides at Makria, a surrounding nearby village of Shinkiari. The name of his father is Ghulam Hussain who was a laborer. He is a member of a huge family comprised of twelve members. He has five brothers and five sisters. His two elder brothers are married and his one sister is also married who lives far away from them. He studies at the center Shinkiari in grade 1st.

Before the earthquake they were living in their village Mental Dhodial. His father was doing labor work and had livestock for fulfilling their daily necessities. His two elder brothers were also doing the labor work. Earthquake affected their house to such an extent that it remained no more live able for them due to considerable structural damage to it. They then migrated to near by UC of Shinkiari, where they took residence at Makarha. Shinkiari was a better market place where there were greater chances of finding the labor work.

His father and two elder brothers were very laborious in nature and they started their work to rehabilitate their family at Makarha, they first acquired a house on rent and they also got the amount of house subsidy from the Government. All the working family members worked very hard for about two years after the earthquake and was able to do saving with which and with the amount of housing subsidy by the Government, they were able to construct their own simple small house at Makria.

With the construction of the house, they tackled the greatest issue of the family i.e. the issue of permanent residence. But there were a lot more sufferings waiting for them. In the meanwhile the health of his father started to deteriorate. He caught the Typhoid fever of which they could not get the proper timely treatment as a result his father died of Typhoid just recently. This was a very shocking incidence for the whole family. After that her mother became the head of the family.

Kawish is a sensitive boy. Even the displacement of his family from their native village imparted negative affects on his mind. He was found reticent on most of the occasion and tacking less interest in the center’s activities. The death of his father has imparted worse impacts on his mind. This tragic incidence further lessened his interest in the center’s activities.

The staff member of the Shinkiari center has given special attention to him. He has been encouraged to participate in the games and other extracurricular activities for which, he was not willing before. But with the passage of time, staff of the center has become successful in arousing his interest. He is now taking good interest in the games and extracurricular activities along with his academic activities. It is the findings of the staff that he is an intelligent boy if he is provided a caring and loving environment, he can achieve a lot of success in his academic career. The good thing about him is that, he is well aware of this fact that it is very important for him and his family that he should be taking good interest in his studies so that he may contribute to get his family out of poverty.

He gives details of a typical day in his life in these words,
“I wake up early in the morning in the working days. After offering my prayer, I start preparation for the school. After having breakfast, I go to attend the center Shinkiari for my studies. On Sunday and other holidays, after prayer, I sleep again and wake up late in the day.

The staff members of the center Shinkiari are very kind and loving. They give me special attention in every matter and never mind if I commit a mistake of any kind. I now love to be at the center rather than to be at home. I want to become a Doctor, so that I may treat the poor people who do not have enough money for their treatment as was my father who died of improper treatment. I am thankful to all the Donors who are supporting Shinkiari center, where I and other children like me are having their learning free of cost”.
