Success Story of Ghalib
Ghalib is a thirteen years boy, who resides at Baghwar Shinkiari. He studies in class fifth at the educational institution, NHA Shinkiari which is supported by Friends Pakistan/KnK Japan. Ghalib lives with his mother in a rented house. The total size of their family is eleven. He has seven brothers and two sisters. His father has died recently in the month of November 2008.
Before attending the educational center, NHA Shinkiari, he was studying in the government primary school Shinkiari during the year of 2005. His father was a poor man, who used to do the work carriage of commodities for the villagers on his donkeys. The family of Ghalib was badly entrapped in the cruel clutches of misfortune, when unfortunately his father got addicted to the pernicious drugs. Two elder brothers of Ghalib were also less than sixteen years so were not in the position to support the family. The consequence of his father’s addiction to drugs appeared in the form of starvation for the family. His father even failed to make up for the daily needs of food for the family.
In such a situation, Ghalib and his one elder brother had to drop out from the school in the year of 2005, when he was only ten years old. He started to work at a workshop for only twenty rupees per day. He also used to go the forests for fetching woods for the use of the family. His elder brother started to do labor work in the market of Shinkiari.
When the financial situation of the family got a bit better, the natural calamity in the form of earthquake occurred in the month of October 2005, which demolished completely their house. This, further deterioted the situation of his family, as his family had to take refuge in a rented house.
In the month of November 2005, the educational project started at the Shinkiari. The mobilization of staff of Friends Pakistan convinced Ghalib and his parents to resume his studies as he was very eager to learn. Ghalib resumed his studies and was enrolled in class second at the NHA Shinkiari. At the same time, he continued to work at the workshop in the evening time. The owner of the auto workshop gave special relaxations to him by allowing him to study in the morning time.
Ghalib employed his full efforts to acquire as much educational competence as it was possible because he was conscious of the fact that he had less time for study in comparison to his others fellows. In the mean time, he also became a skilful auto mechanic in the lapse of three years. Since his enrolment at the NHA center Shinkiari, Ghalib has always secured distinctive position in the academic tests and co-curricular competitive activities. Whenever any competition at the center is announced, Ghalib gets ready to participate in that to secure the top positions.
In the year of the 2008, Ghalib’s Father became too much sick. He had to hospitalize at the Government hospital in Abbottabad, where he remained admitted for several months. The study of Ghalib has adversely suffered during the year 2008 as he had to attend his father in the hospital. His absentee rate remained very high due to the reason of ailment of his father. In the month of November, 2008, his father died of long diseased. Although he is a child of just thirteen years of age, but he has the element of iron in him as he has always shown strong resilience to the cruel circumstances. He recovered his temperament and strongly indulged himself in his studies and work once again. He is resolute to make up for the lessons, he missed during this year. He is confident, that he will be able to get his family out of this difficult situation through his hard work. back
